World Space Week
World Space Week is an event that was announced by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999. Every year between the 4–10 October, it is joined by several countries, non-governmental and non-profit organizations, teachers and private persons around the world.
The purpose of this event is the popularization of the contribution that the education related to space and technology makes into the improvement of our life. Within the framework of this event, various instructive campaigns and programs concerning the cosmonautics and leading events are organized. The event is coordinated by the United Nations Organization with the support from the World Space Week Association for the benefit of the World Space Week and in many places around the world there are local coordinators.
Festivities connected to the space education in Prešov
The Planetarium and Astronomical Observatory in Prešov has been joining the campaign of the World Space Week since 2002. In 2011 it prepared, within the scope of the 50th anniversary of the pilot flights to the universe, an interesting program dedicated to the history and prospects of the space flights. The event also included the artistic exhibition titled Space Projects. The aim of this event was to popularize among the audience the curious details about the space flights, to treat the guests with the interesting program and to jointly popularize the knowledge about the space and technology.
