European Night of Museums
Museums and galleries all over Europe are visited every day by the crowds of sightseers and tourists. However, you can visit them also at night. Every year in May, in individual European cities, including Slovakia, the European Night of Museums (Nuit européenne des musées) is organized under the patronage of the Council of Europe. The aim of this event is to present, in the non-traditional way with adventures, the cultural heritage, the importance of its preservation and the cultural versatility of individual countries and regions.
The Night in the Slovakian galleries and museums
The Slovakian Night of Museums and Galleries is organized alongside with the International Day of Museums held in fifty cities on the same day (19 May 2012). During that day visitors can see the usually unapproachable places and corners and they are enhanced to non-typical activities, including the exploring and experimenting. The audience is involved in the history and art, which will help them in better understanding and acquiring the knowledge, not only about the museums, but also about galleries and the cultural heritage.
The program includes the displaying of the renovation, archiving, cleaning of the exhibits, as well as various specialist activities and workshops. The concerts, musical and dramatic performances, dancing shows or the art workshops are available to attend directly at the exhibitions.
Guests of the Prešov county can spend their Night of the Museums and Galleries in Bardejov, Prešov, Levoča, Poprad, Spišská Belá or in Svidnik. The entrance tickets during the exhibitions can be purchased with the discounts and in some places the entrance is free of charge.
